Those unconfigured Unifi wifi router will be a wonderful place for people like me to make it as a <em><strong>&#8216;playground&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> hotspots.<\/p>\n<p>For those who are security concern about their wifi security, these few steps could help you to reduce the risk of the <em><strong>&#8216;unwanted guest&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> from being part of your wifi users.<\/p>\n<p>By using your browser, go to <strong>http:\/\/192.168.0.1 (by default)<\/strong> to the wifi administration page. Key-in the Username as <strong>admin<\/strong> and just leave it <strong>blank<\/strong> for the password. In other words, there is no password needed to login into the administration page.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"><strong>BEFORE YOU PROCEED, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK OK!!!! DON&#8217;T BLAME ME IF THERE IS ANY FAILURE HAPPENED TO YOU.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"><strong>UPDATED (26-Sep-2011)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">&#8211; TM has changed the default password for the unifi but as it is an open secret.. the password combinations mostly are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">UserName : admin<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"> Pass : (Leave it Empty)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">UserName : admin<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"> Pass : telekom<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"><strong>OR<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">UserName :\u00a0operator<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"> Pass :\u00a0telekom<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\">UserName :\u00a0operator<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000080;\" data-mce-mark=\"1\"> Pass :\u00a0h566UniFi<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6509\" title=\"u1\" src=\"http:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u1-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Change the &#8216;admin&#8217; password<\/strong> &#8211; by default the wifi router comes with admin id and no password configured&#8230; so.. sendiri mau ingat la when your wifi router without admin password. You can configure it at<em> <strong>&#8216;Maintenance&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> tab and <em><strong>&#8216;Device Administration&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6513\" title=\"u2\" src=\"http:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u2-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Change the SSID Name<\/strong> &#8211; by default the SSID name is &lt;your-unifi-id&gt;@unifi, so people knews that it is a default setting by Unifi and can play around with it. You can change the SSID name at <em><strong>&#8216;Setup&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> tab and<strong><em> &#8216;Wireless Setup&#8217;<\/em><\/strong>. Click <em><strong>&#8216;Multiple Wireless Network Name (SSIDs)<\/strong><\/em>&#8216; and change under<strong><em> &#8216;Wireless Network Name&#8217;.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6515\" title=\"u3\" src=\"http:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u3-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Change the Wifi Security Key<\/strong> &#8211; by default, it was not configured; and if configured, it used the 8 digit numeric pin only which can be easily being cracked by people like me. To do this, go to <em><strong>&#8216;Setup&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> tab and<strong><em> &#8216;Wireless Setup&#8217; <\/em><\/strong>under <strong><em>&#8216;Wireless Security Mode&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> change to<strong><em> &#8216;Enable WPA\/WPA2&#8230;&#8217;<\/em><\/strong> and key in your <strong><em>WPA\/WPA2 Network Key<\/em><\/strong> with a strong alphanumeric key. <em>*By changing this Wifi Security Key &#8211; all your wifi clients (PC, Notebook, Ipad, PDA&#8230;) need to reconnect and use the new WPA\/WPA2 key.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6517\" title=\"u4\" src=\"http:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u4.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u4-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Enable WAN to LAN Firewall &#8211; <\/strong>by default, this was disabled. So, your wifi router was not protected by any firewall. To enable the firewall features, go to<em><strong> &#8216;Advance&#8217;<\/strong><\/em> tab and <em><strong>&#8216;Firewall &amp; DMZ&#8217;<\/strong>. <\/em>Just tick the<em><strong> &#8216;Enable WAN to LAN Firewall&#8217;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6518\" title=\"u5\" src=\"http:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u5.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u5-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Block WAN Ping Responce, Block FTP, Block Telnet <\/strong>and what so ever. From the step 4 above, just enable a few other extra security features as described. It will enhance your firewall security.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6519\" title=\"u6\" src=\"http:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"350\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u6.jpg 600w, https:\/\/sawanila.com\/v10\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/u6-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Change Wireless Bandwidth Frequency to 20MHz<\/strong> &#8211; By default, it was configured with <strong><em>20\/40-Mhz Auto<\/em><\/strong>. This what I&#8217;ve discovered. If the bandwidth frequency is <em><strong>20\/40Mhz<\/strong><\/em>, the wifi signal is very weak and the distance shorter. I&#8217;ve placed my wifi router in the living hall and couldn&#8217;t connect from my room, so once I&#8217;ve change to 20Mhz, I found that the signal is stronger and easily manage to connect with ease. You can change the Wireless Bandwidth Frequency at<em><strong> &#8216;Advance&#8217; <\/strong><\/em>tab and<em><strong> &#8216;Advance Wireless&#8217;<\/strong><\/em>, change the bandwidth to 20Mhz only.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>UPDATED 27-10-2011<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Unifi Router Replacement\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t like Dlink DR-615 Unifi Router provided by TM, you can replace the wifi router provided by TM with a few selected models and need \u00a0to\u00a0<em>Flash the router with the Custom Firmware.<\/em>\u00a0Ask the sales person from Lowyat or elsewhere about the Unifi Router Custom Firmware or else, you can say bye-bye for your Unifi IPTV.<\/p>\n<p>My advice, if you want to replace the Unifi router, get the best one which have the gigabit ethernet and N+ 300Mbps wifi or better. The models that are compatible with Unifi \u00a0are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/klseet.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=74&amp;Itemid=70\" target=\"_blank\">Asus &#8211; RT-N13U<\/a> &lt;- <em>Highly Recommended (cheap, build in BT downloader)\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/klseet.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=82&amp;Itemid=78\" target=\"_blank\">Asus &#8211; RT-N56U<\/a>\u00a0&lt;- <em>for those got money&#8230; don&#8217;t regret to use this one.. triple highly recommended&#8230;.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/klseet.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=106&amp;Itemid=98\" target=\"_blank\">Asus &#8211; RT-N16<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/klseet.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=7&amp;Itemid=6\" target=\"_blank\">TP-Link &#8211; TL-WR841ND<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/klseet.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=86&amp;Itemid=81\" target=\"_blank\">TP-Link &#8211; TD-W8960N<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/klseet.com\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=115&amp;Itemid=106\" target=\"_blank\">TP-Link &#8211; TL-WR1043ND<\/a> &lt;- <em>Recommended\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Updated 10-01-2012<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Extending Wifi Coverage<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hi again, almost everyday I got email, sms, queries about extending the DIR-615 wifi coverage where Dir-615 router unable to cover all areas especially in 2 storey houses. \u00a0Yes, I 101% agree that Wifi router Dir-615 provided by TM are es-you-si-kay.<\/p>\n<p>The easiest way to extend wifi coverage by adding a <strong>wifi repeater<\/strong> or <strong>wifi bridge <\/strong>to work along with the Dir-615 router.\u00a0 Just place the wifi repeater in the weak spot location and it will increase the wifi signal tremendously.<\/p>\n<p>There are many wifi models that supports these features. Just go and ask the shop at Low Yat or similar places about the wifi repeater\/bridge.<\/p>\n<p>These are a few suggested model from me:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Asus RT-N10+<\/li>\n<li>Asus RT-N12+<\/li>\n<li>Asus RT-N13U+<\/li>\n<li>TP-Link\u00a0TL-WA801ND<\/li>\n<li>And many others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><strong>UPDATED: 02 Feb 2012<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" style=\"border-image: initial; margin: 10px; border: 0px initial initial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aztech.com\/sg\/images\/Products\/Wireless\/WL556E_main_b.gif\" alt=\"\" height=\"150\" \/>At last&#8230; I use the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aztech.com\/my\/wireless_wl556e.html\" target=\"_blank\">Aztech Wall-Plugged Wireless-N Extender WL556E<\/a><\/strong> to extend my home wifi coverage. Worth buying, now no more blind spots and I can extend up to 300Mbps of wifi speed. Just configured this baby as wifi repeater and it was kacangly easy.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Secondly, this Aztech wall plugged works great with my existing wifi router<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asus.com\/Networks\/Wireless_Routers\/RTN56U\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asus RT-N56U<\/a> <\/strong>which I bought earlier to replace the crappy Dir-615.
